Although fraud is not a new problem, the evolution of new technologies and social media has provided fraudsters with new means of committing tax crimes, abuse of power, coercion, manipulation, money laundering, and terrorist financing.

To avoid becoming a victim of fraud, MaxPay recommends:

Fraudsters can be quite creative criminals in the “art of stealing” information that allows them to access your money through your card details and use them to make unauthorized debits. This practice can be carried out by anyone around you, including shopkeepers, salespeople or employees.

Minimize fraud risks:

  • Protect yourself and protect yourself when entering operational codes into ATM machines, whether for making transfers, payments, checking account balances and bank statements, or for any and all transactions you carry out with your credit or debit card;
  • Before entering your transaction code, check that the amount entered on the machines corresponds to the actual amount of your purchase;
  • Keep copies of purchase and payment receipts for the period following the purchase;
  • Regularly update and check your bank account statements;
  • In the event of theft or loss of identity documents and bank cards, immediately contact the police nearest to the location of the theft or loss and inform your bank to cancel the transactions.

Online fraud, avoid it!
When buying and selling goods online, you can never be too careful. In general, fraudsters seek, above all, to obtain all your personal information, as well as data relating to bank accounts, telephone contacts, access data (usernames and passwords) to bank accounts, emails and personal accounts, among others.

How to avoid falling victim to online fraud:

  • Do not provide your access data to personal areas to anyone;
  • When creating new passwords, make sure they are highly memorable, personal and non-transferable;
  • When you receive emails from suspicious or unknown sources, do not open them and put them directly in the recycle bin;
  • Be aware of manipulation attempts through chats and other online conversation platforms;
  • Do not allow your internet browser to automatically remember passwords on websites that access personal and confidential data;
  • Download documents and other content only from certified websites;
  • Keep track of your online purchases daily and don’t hesitate to ask sellers about the status of your transfers.
